Canada’s first female Prime Minister

Kim Campbell is appointed Prime Minister after Brian Mulroney retires from politics. Campbell’s tenure will be short-lived, as the Progressive Conservatives will suffer a crushing defeat four months later in the 1993 federal election, only winning two seats and losing official party status. It will be the worst defeat of a federal government in Canadian history.
